LOCAL RESTAURANTS CHIP IN TO HELP TEEN SUICIDE PREVENTION EFFORTS

Eight county restaurants are joining in the effort to prevent teen suicide by donating a share of their proceeds during National Suicide Prevention Week (September 8-14, 2013) to the Anne Arundel County Youth Suicide Awareness Action Team. Donated proceeds will be used to fund programs at Anne Arundel County high schools and other community locations.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teenagers in the United States. The Youth Suicide Awareness Action Team, which works to address teen suicide and related emotional issues such as depression, is comprised of representatives from many county agencies and organizations, including Anne Arundel County Public Schools. The group’s efforts have resulted in more than 18,000 people being trained in how to recognize suicidal ideation in individuals and how to direct them toward the help they need.
