SUPERINTENDENT GEORGE ARLOTTO RELEASES STATEMENT ON COUNTY EXECUTIVE STEVE SCHUH’S FY2017 BUDGET PROPOSALS

Superintendent George Arlotto today released the following statement regarding County Executive Steve Schuh’s proposed Fiscal Year 2017 operating and capital budgets:

“The County Executive’s funding of compensation increases for our incredibly hard-working employees as well as those in county government echoes what the Board of Education and I have said many times: Our people are the foundation of all of our successes. This proposal provides us with approximately $5 million more than legally required at the outset of the budget season, and also includes additional teachers to address rising enrollment and funding to maintain and expand key programs and initiatives. Despite the improving economy, I certainly understand that Mr. Schuh had to make some difficult decisions in this budget as he sought to address the many needs across the county. I appreciate his conversations with our staff throughout his portion of the process, and look forward to continuing those conversations with the County Council over the next two months.”
