The Anne Arundel Retired School Personnel Association (AARSPA) will provide Board of Education members with a tour of the Annearrundell County Free School Museum at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4.
The structure is believed to be the only surviving schoolhouse constructed as a result of the Maryland Free School Act of 1723. It now functions as a living history classroom, a museum, a repository for education artifacts, and a place for interested citizens to study the history of public education since its beginning in the 1700s.
The museum is located off Rutland Road near Route 450 in Davidsonville. It is open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. on the second Saturday and Sunday of each month from April through August. School tours led by AARSPA members can be arranged by appointment.
