Bates Middle School, in partnership with 410Films and Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ Office of Equity and Accelerated Student Achievement, will highlight the powerful stories of its students and staff with a showcase documentary next month at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. The event is the culmination of a yearlong partnership project designed to help students and staff members find and use their voice.
“This has been an amazing experience for us and I cannot wait to share our stories with our community,” Bates Principal Katherine Hicks said. “Our partnership with 410Films has helped our students and staff not just find their voices but showcase them and, in the process, discover commonalities and build stronger relationships with each other.”
Over the course of this school year, Bates Middle School has engaged with community arts groups to help students and staff tell their own stories. With the belief that everyone has a story and that every story matters, the effort has focused on celebrating differences while finding connections. The project has helped students and staff develop a sense of comfort in sharing their stories.
The Bates Story Project will be shown twice on Monday, June 5 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, located at 801 Chase St. in Annapolis. Hourlong showings will take place at 6 and 8 p.m. at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, located at 801 Chase Street in Annapolis.
