BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVES NEGOTIATED AGREEMENT WITH SECOND EMPLOYEE BARGAINING UNIT

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County has approved a negotiated agreement with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Local 1693 (AFSCME), that call for step and cost-of-living increases for the coming fiscal year.

The agreement with AFSCME, which represents maintenance and operations staff as well as those in Food and Nutrition Services, Transportation and Logistics, covers Fiscal Year 2024, which begins July 1, 2023. It provides for;

  • a step increase for all eligible bargaining unit employees.
  • 6 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for all bargaining unit employees.
  • elimination of the first four grades of the current salary scale to increase starting salaries for all bargaining unit members hired after July 1, 2023.

The increases are contingent on funding from the Anne Arundel County government.

The Board now has tentative agreements with both the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County and the Association of Educational Leaders. Approval of those should take place next month after ratification by members of the respective bargaining units.
