The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County tonight elected Melissa Ellis as president and Dana Schallheim as vice president. Both will serve in their respective capacities until the Board’s first meeting in December 2021.
Ellis was elected to a six-year term representing District 4 on the Board in November 2018 and took office in December of that year. She is a home educator who taught her four children through eighth grade before they entered the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system. Prior to becoming a home educator, Mrs. Ellis was a human resources manager for a healthcare company and a logistician for a contractor for the U.S. Navy.
Schallheim was elected to a six-year term representing District 5 on the Board in 2018 and also took office the following month. She is currently an at-home parent, volunteer, and advocate who has regularly volunteered at her daughter’s school and for a variety of nonprofit organizations. Before having her daughter, she was an energy consultant on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy and private utility clients. In that role, she executed energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.
The Board is now comprised of seven elected adult members and one student member. Also serving on the Board are Candace C.W. Antwine of Jessup, Robert Silkworth of Old Mill, Corine Frank of Pasadena, Joanna Bache Tobin of Annapolis, and Michelle Corkadel of Edgewater and Student Member Drake Smith.
