The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will discuss and vote on eight contracts for work on the Lothian Elementary School replacement project at its next meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, in the Board Room at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis.
The contracts range from services such as demolition of the existing building to window, roof, and paint work at the new school, expected to open in August 2015. The $32.7 million facility will be nearly 16,000 square feet larger and accommodate a little more than 550 students.
County Executive Laura Neuman has included $8.6 million in her Fiscal Year 2014 capital budget proposal to be put toward the project. That proposal is now before the County Council.
Students of Lothian Elementary School will spend the next two years sharing space at Southern Middle School.
The Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. to vote to go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The general session of the meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 7:00 p.m.
A complete agenda for the meeting accompanies this news release. More information on agenda items can be found on the AACPS website, www.aacps.org, in the Board Docs section under the Board of Education tab.
