Superintendent George Arlotto released the following statement today following the County Council’s adoption of its Fiscal Year 2018 operating and capital budgets:
“This budget season has been one ruled by collaboration instead of conflict, and as a result we have been able to address the two most pressing needs in our school system: employee compensation and the stability of our healthcare fund. The majority of our employees have agreed to share in the sacrifices necessary to accomplish these goals, and the County Executive and County Council have been willing partners as we have traveled this difficult but necessary road.”
“The capital budget passed today allows us to continue the critical work of upgrading and expanding our educational facilities. I am very pleased that the Council was able to find additional funding for Edgewater, Tyler Heights, and Richard Henry Lee elementary schools while keeping our other projects on schedule.”
