Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) Supervisor of Purchasing Mary Jo Childs has been appointed to the Maryland Procurement Advisory Council (PAC), a group that provides guidance on current procurement issues and advancements in procurement methods.
The council is comprised of representatives from the Board of Public Works and the State’s primary procurement agencies. Childs was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan as the council’s local government representative because of her expertise in local procurement matters.
“I am honored to be appointed to the council and to contribute in any way I can to ensuring that taxpayer funds are spent as efficiently and prudently as possible across Maryland,” said Childs, who took her current position with AACPS in May 2015 after spending more than 20 years in government procurement.
AACPS has been a leader in public procurement across the state, and is one of eight Maryland agencies and 23 school districts in the nation to earn the 2016 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Procurement Institute. This year marks the fifth consecutive year and eighth overall that AACPS has won the award.
