SCHOOL START TIMES TASK FORCE TO PROVIDE REPORT AT OCTOBER 8, 2014, BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING

The Board of Education will hear a presentation from the School Start Times Task force and discuss the group’s findings at its next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, 2014, in the Board Room at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis.

The task force was formed by former interim superintendent Mamie J. Perkins in February and charged with researching and developing options regarding school start times at all levels. The task force will not make any recommendations to the Board, but will instead discuss its findings and present options for the Board to consider should it choose to do so.

At the meeting, the Board will also hear an update on student enrollment and performance in Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Honors courses. It will also vote on approval of design documents for kindergarten additions at Eastport and Georgetown East elementary schools, and an open space enclosure project at Glen Burnie High School.

The Board will meet at 8:30 a.m. to vote to go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The general session of the meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 10:00 a.m.

A complete agenda for the meeting accompanies this news release. More information on agenda items can be found on the AACPS Web site, www.aacps.org, in the Board Docs section under the Board of Education tab.

The general session of the meeting will be broadcast live on AACPS-TV, which can be found on Channel 96 on Comcast and Broadstripe, and Channel 36 on Verizon. High definition broadcasts can be seen on Channel 996 on Comcast and Channel 496 on Broadstripe.

Rebroadcasts of Board meetings are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. the day after the meeting and 2:00 p.m. on subsequent Sundays.
