COMMITTEE TO LOOK AT REDISTRICTING OPTIONS FOR ANNAPOLIS AND EDGEWATER AREA SCHOOLS

A committee of parents, community residents, and school system officials is set to begin studying the possibilities with regard to redistricting at several Annapolis and Edgewater area schools.

The committee will study options available to alleviate, to the extent possible, overcrowding at Tyler Heights Elementary School.  The committee also will consider whether to place all children of U.S. Naval Academy residents into a single elementary school, and whether several parcels of land on Admiral Cochrane Drive in Edgewater should be redistricted.

An organizational meeting of the committee will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, in the cafeteria at Bates Middle School, located at 701 Chase Street in Annapolis. The committee also is scheduled to meet at 7:00 p.m. on the following dates:

● October 7, 2014, at Annapolis Middle School, 1399 Forest Drive, Annapolis

● October 14, 2014, at Georgetown East Elementary School, 111 Dogwood Road, Annapolis

● October 21, 2014, at Germantown Elementary School, 200 Windell Avenue, Annapolis

● October 28, 2014, at Annapolis Middle School, 1399 Forest Drive, Annapolis

The committee may complete its work in fewer meetings than those currently scheduled. All committee meetings are open to the public.  Public input is welcome at all meetings except the organizational meeting.

The committee will make a recommendation to schools Superintendent George Arlotto In early November. Dr. Arlotto will forward his recommendations to the Board of Education no later than the first Board meeting in December. The Board will conduct public hearings on the plans before reaching a decision no later than April 30, 2015.
