AWARD-WINNING GLEN BURNIE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER ALLISON BUTLER TO SPEAK AT NATIONAL ING CONFERENCE

Glen Burnie High School art teacher Allison Butler, the nationwide winner of ING’s Unsung Heroes Award earlier this year, will tell her story to a national audience later this month when she is a featured speaker at the ING 2014 Adviser Insight Conference. The conference will be held January 29 and 30 in Las Vegas.

Butler outshined 1,300 applicants to win the $27,000 grant in the competition for her innovative idea, “Art at the Speed of Light.” The initiative brings together Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ drawing and painting curriculum with Glen Burnie High School’s BioMedical Allied Health (BMAH) honors physics curriculum to create an interdisciplinary pilot course that allows students to study physics through a visual arts lens. Butler is using the grant to incorporate video animation and other photographic technology as an alternative way to study physics concepts.
