Retiring Anne Arundel County Public Schools Regional Assistant Superintendent Chris Truffer has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP), the organization announced this week.
Truffer, whose AACPS retirement is effective at the end of this month, is a graduate of Northeast High School who has spent his entire 36-year educational career in the school system. From his start as a social studies teacher at Central Middle School, he moved on to serve as an assistant principal and principal before taking on a variety of roles supervising principals over the last 19 years. He has served as a regional assistant superintendent for six of AACPS’ 13 clusters, and currently oversees schools in the Arundel, Crofton, and South River clusters.
“I have loved working with principals, leadership teams and school communities to have a collective positive impact on student success,” Truffer said. “I have learned a lot through my years in AACPS and am eager to work across the state to support principals and to facilitate a greater sharing of the amazing things that principals are doing to lead schools and accelerate student achievement.”
Truffer also taught graduate courses in Instructional Leadership at Goucher College from 2010 to 2022.
MASSP is an affiliate of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and partners at the state and national levels to ensure that its members are provided with resources and tools to meet the ever-changing demands of the principalship. The organization advocates for Maryland’s school administrators through a variety of avenues and collaborates with Maryland State Department of Education staff to ensure that school administrators are both included in and informed about state education policy.
