AACPS EARNS NATIONAL DISTINGUISHED DISTRICT AWARD FROM LEADING EDUCATIONAL NON-PROFIT GROUP

Anne Arundel County Public Schools has earned a Distinguished District Award from one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious educational non-profit organizations for its work to elevate teaching and learning.

ASCD, formerly known as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, named the school district as one of two honorees nationwide. The awards are earned by districts for their work to seek and embrace change and extend efforts to serve the whole child. Honorees also serve as exemplary models for other educational institutions.

“This honor is recognition of the work we are doing not just in our classrooms but in our professional development sessions to change the instructional model we deliver and better serve our students,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Bedell said. “We are moving away from some of the rigidity that I believe has held us back and encouraging more innovative approaches to teaching and learning. This will benefit our students, our staff, and our community as a whole.”

ASCD was founded in 1943. It has more than 125,000 members from more than 128 countries, including superintendents, principals, teachers, professors of education, and other educators.

“AACPS is a dynamic force in shaping the academic landscape,” the organization said in announcing the award. “AACPS aims to equip students not only for academic success, but also for active community engagement, seamless career entry, and higher education, fostering a generation capable of crafting a better quality of life for themselves and the communities they serve.”
