152 ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS EDUCATORS EARN NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION

Ninety-six Anne Arundel County Public Schools educators achieved prestigious National Board Certification for the first time and 56 others successfully maintained their certifications, making AACPS’ 2023 class of NBCT educators one of the school system’s largest ever and 62 percent larger than the 2022 class.

AACPS now boasts a total of 408 educators who have earned NBCT status, second among all Maryland school systems. National Board Certified teachers are highly sought after in the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and can earn an additional $10,000 or more in compensation depending on their work assignment.

“The work that goes into this certification process is as arduous as it is rewarding,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Bedell said. “Those who have earned this distinction show enduring passion for being lifelong learners and putting themselves in positions to better the education and lives of the children they serve. We should all be proud of the work they have done and will continue to do.”

In a process that can take up to five years, Anne Arundel’s 2023 class successfully completed rigorous assessments with the assistance of a professional development program offered by the school system. Nearly 390 AACPS educators are currently seeking to earn NBCT status.
