OLD MILL MIDDLE SCHOOL SOUTH NAMED NATIONAL CERTIFIED MAGNET SCHOOL FOR OUTSTANDING STEM PROGRAM

Building on its recognition as a National Magnet School of Excellence earlier in 2023, Old Mill Middle School South has now been named a National Certified Magnet School by Magnet Schools of America (MSA).

The designation is given to schools that demonstrate – through evidence, reflection, and strategic action – establishment of Standards of Excellence fulfillment of a commitment to the community.

“This certification is truly an honor because it reflects not just the work of our students and staff, but the investment of our community,” Old Mill Middle School South Principal Linda Chandler said. “Together, we are creating amazing opportunities for students every day and that would not be possible without the incredible teamwork that exists here. Students, parents, AACPS staff, and the numerous business, higher education, government, and non-profit partners all play key roles in the success of the STEM Magnet program at Old Mill Middle South, and they all share in this honor.”

MSA, the national association of magnet and theme-based schools, created this national certification process to recognize the most exemplary magnet schools in the nation and help them as they continue to grow and provide high-quality, innovative curriculum and instructional programs that promote choice, equity, diversity, and academic excellence for all students. The certification process is based on the five pillars of magnet schools and the National Magnet School Standards of Excellence, which define the essential elements and characteristics of high-quality magnet programs.

In addition to this award and its honor earlier this year, Old Mill Middle School South was named a National Magnet School of Distinction in 2020 and 2022.
