BROCK BRIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL ADA CARTER NAMED PRESIDENT OF MARYLAND ALLIANCE OF BLACK SCHOOL EDUCATORS, LEAD PRESIDENT OF THE NORTHEAST REGION

Brock Bridge Elementary School Principal Ada Carter, who served as president-elect of the Anne Arundel Alliance of Black School Educators (AAABSE) during the 2022-2023 school year, has been elected president of the organization and lead president of the National Associating of Black School Educators’ Northeast Region for the upcoming school year.

“This distinction not only recognizes Mrs. Carter’s exceptional commitment to educational excellence but also highlights her unwavering dedication to promoting equity within our educational system,” Dr. Rahesha Amon, Northeast Region Chair, said in announcing Carter’s appointment.

Carter holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from the University of North Texas as well as two leadership certificates from the Harvard and Yale graduate schools of education. After several years as a music teacher and department chair in Anne Arundel County Public Schools and elsewhere, she served new AACPS teachers as a Right Start Advisor from 2015 to 2017. She was an assistant principal at MacArthur Middle School from 2017 to 2019 and before serving as principal at Sequoia Elementary School in Oakland, Calif. She returned to AACPS as principal at Brock Bridge in the fall of 2021.

Carter has been a strong voice for diversity, inclusion, and acceptance across AACPS. She has sought to increase the visibility for AAABSE over the last year with, among other things, the launch of an improved website and more public awareness of the resources the organization provides for educators, and support staff and students.

“I am honored to be given an opportunity to serve on the state level and to help further efforts in all Maryland jurisdictions, and the region, to increase supportssupport for staff and opportunities for students of all ages to be served by role models who share their lived experiences,” Carter said.
