BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVES NEGOTIATED AGREEMENT WITH ASSOCIATION OF EDUCATIONAL LEADERS

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County has approved a negotiated agreement for the coming fiscal year with the Association of Educational Leaders (AEL) that provides step and cost-of-living increases for members of the bargaining unit.

The FY2024 agreement with AEL will begin on July 1, 2023. It provides a step equivalent increase for all eligible employees and a 6 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for all bargaining unit employees. The increases are contingent on funding from the Anne Arundel County government in its approval of the FY2024 budget.

The agreement also calls for a transition from AEL’s current salary scale, which contains steps, to a pay band structure beginning on July 1, 2023, with no loss in pay to employees as a result of the transition. The pay band structure will contain no steps and salary increases will be provided through cost-of-living adjustments.

The Board now has formally approved agreements with three of its four employee bargaining units and has a tentative agreement with the fourth, the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County.
