THREE AACPS STUDENTS TO REPRESENT COUNTY AND STATE AT NATIONAL HISTORY DAY COMPETITION

After earning first- and second-place honors, respectively, at the recent state competition, three students from Old Mill Middle School South and Old Mill High School will represent Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the state of Maryland at the 2023 National History Day competition.

Lucy Scarbro earned first place in the Junior Individual Documentary category for her project, “Jackie Robinson: From Cairo to Cooperstown.” Mallary Krieger and Rebekah Mueller earned second place in the Senior Group Performance category for their project, “Women Making Headlines.”

In addition, the Senior Division Major General John E. Morris Award for Excellence in STEM Education and Innovation was awarded to Aleah Dinmore of Arundel High School for her project, “The Worm that Ate Through the Internet: The Morris Worm.” This special prize was sponsored by the National Cryptologic Museum Foundation.

Focused on the theme, Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas, nearly 500 students from across the state shared their historical knowledge, extensive research, and educated perspectives via various categories and expressions such as visual exhibits, performances, websites, documentaries, and written assignments. About 70 of those students will represent the state at the National History Day Competition to be held June 11-15 at the University of Maryland, College Park.
