BROOKLYN PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL RODNEY WALKER EARNS STATE HONOR FROM MARYLAND ASSOCIATION OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS

Brooklyn Park Elementary School Principal Rodney Walker has been named the 2023 National Distinguished Principal by the Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals (MAESP).

The award, given in collaboration with the National Association of Elementary School Principals, recognizes principals who set high standards for instruction, student achievement, character, and climate for students, families  and staffs in their learning communities. In presenting the award, MAESP cited Walker’s impact on his community, his staff, his students and as a role model and mentor to his peers.

Additionally, “Mr. Walker was instrumental in establishing a male mentoring group entitled Boys of Distinction with the purpose of supporting African American males providing educational and experiential opportunities to close the achievement gap,” the group said in its announcement.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected for this honor,” Walker said. “I want to acknowledge the amazing staff, students, and community that work with me. This award is about their work and dedication.”

Walker, who is in his eighth year as principal at Brooklyn Park Elementary School, will be formally honored alongside principals from other states across the nation this fall during a two-day event in Washington, D.C.
