NORTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL BRINGS HOME TOP HONOR IN STATE CULINARY AND HOSPITALITY COMPETITION

Northeast High School ranked first in the culinary skills category at the recent Maryland ProStart Student Invitational. This competition calls on students to showcase their skills against other programs across the state.

Northeast High School’s culinary team planned, prepared, and presented a winning three-course meal of an appetizer, entrée, and dessert to a panel of judges.  Amongst many meticulous rules, students had no running water, no electricity, two gas burners, and only one hour to create their masterpieces.

ProStart is a nationwide, two-year high school program. Students can remain in their comprehensive high school and enroll in Culinary Skills and Hospital Management courses. ProStart’s industry-driven curriculum provides real-life experience opportunities and builds practical skills and a foundation that will last a lifetime. Thirteen county schools offer Culinary Skills and Hospitality Management as a completer program.

The team, Luke Peebles, Elyce Bonanno, Jamira Green, and their instructor, Star Bey, will represent AACPS and Maryland at the National ProStart Invitational (NPSI) in Washington, D.C., this May.
