SOUTHERN HIGH SCHOOL FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA EARNS RECOGNITION IN NATIONAL AWARD PROGRAM

The Southern High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter received a 2-Star Chapter rating, announced recently at the 95th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. Based on the Chapter’s 2021-2022 Program of Activities (POA) and their involvement in the community, Southern FFA is one of only five Maryland Gold chapters to the 2-Star designation.

In addition, the Southern High School Farm and Agribusiness Management Team finished 24th in Career Development Events (CDE), earning a Silver ranking among the 41 chapters that competed nationally. “The Farm and Agribusiness CDE “Is the most difficult of all the Career Development Events due to the high level of financial literacy required,” according to the FFA website.

For individual recognitions, five Southern HS FFA team members competed against 164 other students and placed as follows:

Robert Henry (Class of 2022) placed 65th – Silver

Katelyn Bullock (Class of 2024) placed 88th – Silver

Jacob Bjerknes (Class of 2022) placed 108 – Silver

Ethan Scofield (Class of 2023) placed 117 – Bronze

The Southern High School Chapter Advisor Dr. Stacy Eckels was also recognized and appointed as a National Cohort Teacher CASE Lab Specialist while at the Convention.

This is the first year Southern HS FFA has applied for the National Chapter Award in its 10-year history.
