DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, SCHOOL SYSTEM TEAM UP TO OFFER FREE FLU VACCINATION CLINICS

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health and Anne Arundel County Public Schools are partnering to offer free flu vaccinations to county students at eight schools across the county over the next four weeks.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone six months of age and older should receive a flu vaccine every year.  COVID-19 continues to circulate and due to flu rates being lower the past two years, the general population may have less immunity to flu than in previous years, making it even more important to get a flu vaccine this year.

Clinics have been set up at eight Title I schools throughout the county but are open to any student. Each clinic will run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and will offer flu vaccinations only.

Families of those wishing to receive a vaccination must register prior to the clinic by going to www.aacps.org/vaccines. To provide equitable access for all interested families, links for clinics will be made public on that web page at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2022.

Clinics will be held as follows:

  • Wednesday, October 26: Annapolis Middle School, 1399 Forest Drive, Annapolis
  • Thursday, October 27: Brock Bridge Elementary School, 405 Brock Bridge Road, Laurel
  • Wednesday, November 2: Lothian Elementary School, 5175 Solomons Island Road, Lothian
  • Thursday, November 3: Park Elementary School, 201 E. 11th Avenue, Brooklyn Park
  • Wednesday, November 9: Freetown Elementary School, 7904 Freetown Road, Glen Burnie
  • Thursday, November 10: Southgate Elementary School, 290 Shetlands Lane, Glen Burnie
  • Wednesday, November 16: Tyler Heights Elementary School, 200 Janwall Street, Annapolis
  • Thursday, November 17: Van Bokkelen Elementary School, 1140 Reece Road, Severn

A parent or guardian must accompany any student under the age of 16 at the clinic. Because the clinic is a medical setting, masks are required.

In addition to the school-based clinics, the Department of Health is offering three community clinics this month:

  • 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 15, at the Baymeadow Parking Lot, 6701 Baymeadow Drive, Glen Burnie. This is a drive-through clinic
  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, at the Lula Scott Community Center, 6243 Shady Side Road, Shady Side
  • 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 22, at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center, 273 Hilltop Lane, Annapolis.
