Board of Education President Joanna Tobin and Superintendent George Arlotto issued the following statements today regarding the Fiscal Year 2023 budget proposal released today by County Executive Steuart Pittman:
“Our Board is extremely grateful to County Executive Pittman and his team for the enormous amount of conversation and consideration of our school system’s needs that have gone into this budget proposal. The last two years have created many additional needs for our students and staff, and this plan is a huge first step in fully meeting those needs.”
DR. ARLOTTO
“The request I put forward and our Board approved ambitiously set forth the many needs of our school system as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and enter a new chapter with the Blueprint. It is clear to me that the County Executive and his team clearly valued our message, understood it, and delivered as much as they could to address our needs. I am particularly thankful for the full funding of our compensation packages for our awesome employees and contracted bus drivers, the allocation of 424 additional positions, and the careful attention paid to providing more resources to address the social and emotional needs of our students. I am also thankful that every item in our capital budget request is funded, ensuring we will continue to be able to enhance and upgrade the educational environments for our students.”
