The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County today released 14 proposed amendments to Superintendent George Arlotto’s Fiscal Year 2023 operating and capital budget recommendations it intends to introduce and discuss next week before finalizing its formal request to Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman.
The amendments pertain to both the capital and operating budgets and cover areas such as air conditioning for gymnasiums, reductions in professional development, funding for Advanced Placement exams, and the creation of a Board of Education constituent services position.
The Board is scheduled to adopt its formal FY2023 operating and capital budget requests at its February 16, 2022, meeting and will forward those requests to the County Executive. The County Executive’s proposal will be considered by the County Council before it adopts a budget that allocates funding within prescribed state categories in June. The Board retains the ability to shift funding within operating budget categories before it approves a final school system budget no later than June 30.
The full text of all proposed amendments and associated cost implications can be found at www.aacps.org/fy2023budget.
The Board conducted two public hearings and a public workshop on Dr. Arlotto’s recommendation in January. It will accept public comment specifically on the amendments only – not on other areas of Dr. Arlotto’s recommendation – at its February 16, 2022, meeting. Links to sign up to speak or submit written comment on the amendments will go live at www.aacps.org/boardtestimony at 3 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2022.
