BOARD OF EDUCATION APPOINTS NEW MEMBERS TO CAC EXECUTIVE PANEL

In accordance with its new structure, the Executive Panel of the county Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) will welcome 19 new members appointed today by the Board of Education.  As the two-year terms ended for all 12 secondary representatives, vacancies were also filled for six elementary positions, one at-large position, and one organizational position.  The Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) advises the Board on key issues surrounding education throughout the county.

“The process of the restructuring is now coming full circle,” Board President Teresa Birge said.  “We have fostered new relationships and have gained great insight from the enthusiastic parents and community members who have been involved. It’s even more refreshing to welcome a new crop of talented and eager people ready to help us keep the wheels moving forward.”

The appointees are:

● Annapolis Cluster: Kia Chandler (secondary)

● Arundel Cluster: Loretta Khangura (secondary)

● Broadneck Cluster: Constanza Hanford (secondary)

● Chesapeake Cluster: Tanisha Jagoe (elementary) and Brian Weber (secondary)

● Glen Burnie Cluster: Greg Novak (secondary)

● Meade Cluster: Maurice McBride (elementary) and Rachelle Large (secondary)

● North County Cluster: Jennifer Bryant (secondary)

● Northeast Cluster: Katie Wukitch (elementary) and Genevieve Haller (secondary)

● Old Mill Cluster: Angelica Watts (elementary) and Randi Kae Bocanegra (secondary)

● Severna Park Cluster: Brad Myers (secondary)

● South River Cluster: Debbie Oakes (elementary) and Pamela Murray (secondary)

● Southern Cluster: Lynette Entzian (secondary)

● At-Large: Edmund Barrett

The new appointees will join the nine current representatives in forming the Executive Panel, which includes two representatives from each of the 12 high school clusters, one representing elementary schools and one representing secondary schools, two at-large representatives, and three respective representatives from the Anne Arundel County Council of PTAs, Special Education Advisory Committee, and Parent Involvement Advisory Council.

Sixty-four applications were screened by a four-member committee, which forwarded its recommendations to the Board. Members of the screening committee were: Board of Education member Debbie Ritchie; Karma O’Neill, representing the Countywide CAC; Teresa Tudor, Senior Manager for School and Family Partnerships for Anne Arundel County Public Schools; and Mike Ballard, Phoenix Academy assistant principal.
