BOARD OF EDUCATION MOVES AHEAD IN SELECTION PROCESS FOR INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County held its second meeting today to wade through the various legal and contractual issues involved in the process for selecting an appropriate leader to temporarily guide county schools for the next year.

Following more than three hours of discussion in closed session today, the Board has decided to hold another closed session meeting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis. Pursuant to Section 10-508(a) (1) of the State Government Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland, the meeting will not be open to the public.

State law requires that an interim superintendent be appointed to serve until July 1, 2014, while the Board embarks on a search to name a successor to Superintendent Kevin Maxwell. Dr. Maxwell submitted his resignation on June 27 to become Chief Executive Officer of Prince George’s County Public Schools. He and the Board have not yet determined a date for his departure.
