Staff at the Center of Applied Technology – South will return to their building to finish setting up classrooms on Wednesday, September 8, and begin to instruct students virtually the next day as repairs to the building, which was damaged by a tornado earlier this week, continue.
CAT-South, which did not suffer any structural damage from the tornado, was not scheduled to have students in its building on September 8, so the day will be allocated to allowing staff to get classrooms and offices in order and prepare for instruction. Among Anne Arundel County Public Schools high school students, only ninth-graders report to school on the first day.
Students enrolled in CAT-South programs will remain in their home schools on September 9 and 10, with instruction by teachers being delivered virtually. In-person instruction for CAT-South students, with regular transportation to and from home schools, will begin on Monday, September 13.
CAT-South students will receive more information from the school regarding logging in for virtual learning. Staff will also receive more information about reporting to work.
All other AACPS schools will open on Wednesday, September 8, as scheduled.
Work is also continuing on the South River High School stadium concession stand and turf field, which were also damaged by the tornado. Athletics teams should be able to resume playing in the stadium in the near future.
