BOARD OF EDUCATION TO GET UPDATE ON SUMMER LEARNING, FALL REOPENING PLANS AT NEXT MEETING

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County is scheduled to receive an update from Superintendent George Arlotto and members of his staff regarding summer learning opportunities and efforts to close the opportunity gap as well as discussions about plans to reopen in the fall at its next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, 2020.

The Board is also scheduled to appoint individuals to fill vacancies on the Executive Committee of the Countywide Citizen Advisory Committee.

The meeting will be the first for new Student Member of the Board (SMOB) Drake Smith, whose one-year term began on July 1. Smith is the 47th SMOB and the only one in the nation on a local school board who has full voting rights.

The Board will meet virtually in a public session at 8:30 a.m. for the sole purpose of voting to immediately go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The public session of the meeting will resume at 10 a.m.
