Acting swiftly on federal and state approvals garnered over the last 24 hours, Anne Arundel County Public Schools has expanded the meals program it will begin offering to children ages 2 to 18 tomorrow.
Children who go to any of the 31 school sites from noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or the 21 additional mobile meals at the specified times will receive a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a single pickup. Meals are provided free of charge each day. Children must be between the ages of 2 and 18, but do not have to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals. Adults cannot accept meals on behalf of children.
“This effort truly exemplifies what we mean by #AACPSAwesome,” Superintendent George Arlotto said. “Led by Supervisor of Food and Nutrition Services Jodi Risse, our team was not content to just serve lunch to students. Once we got the approvals to expand, our team sprung into action and will have three meals ready for students tomorrow. I could not be more proud of the way our AACPS family works to support our children.”
By federal standards, a site must be located in a place which serves a school where 50 percent or more of students are eligible for free and reduced-price meals.
