BOARD OF EDUCATION TO RECEIVE SUPERINTENDENT GEORGE ARLOTTO’S RECOMMENDATION ON REDISTRICTING BROADNECK CLUSTER SCHOOLS

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will receive a recommendation from Superintendent George Arlotto to adjust the attendance boundaries for schools in the Broadneck cluster at its next meeting, scheduled for December 4, 2019.

A committee composed of representatives from every school in the cluster was charged with examining possibilities to best utilize, to the extent possible, the space available at the cluster’s five elementary schools and two middle schools.

The Board will consider Dr. Arlotto’s recommendation and any other alternatives and decide which options to take to a public hearing later this year. Under Board policy, a redistricting plan must be adopted by April 30, 2020, for it to go into effect in the 2020-2021 school year. Information on the redistricting process can be found here.

Also at Wednesday’s meeting, the Board is scheduled to adopt its 2020 Legislative Program, which formalizes positions on issue that may be the subject of legislation in the upcoming General Assembly session.

The Board is also scheduled to consider approval of six new courses, including a Unified Visual Arts and Leadership course that will allow students with disabilities to focus on creativity as a means for expression through a variety of techniques.

Wednesday’s meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis. The Board will meet in a public session at 8:30 a.m. for the sole purpose of voting to immediately go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The public session of the meeting will resume at 10 a.m.
