OAK HILL ELEMENTARY RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS SEVEN SEALS AWARD

Oak Hill Elementary School in Severna Park has been honored with the prestigious Seven Seals Award for its support of the men and women in the National Guard and Reserve and their children who attend county schools.

The award is sponsored by the Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense organization established in 1972. Oak Hill has several students whose parents are members of the National Guard and Reserve, and works to develop and maintain relationships between students, parents, teachers, and other school staff that help increase student achievement and address issues often experienced by military children. The school was nominated for the award by a parent stationed in Dubai who has two students at Oak Hill.

“We are very proud to have received this award because it exemplifies the true team spirit that everyone at Oak Hill embodies every single day,” Oak Hill Principal Deneen Houghton said. “Children of parents in the National Guard and Reserve have experiences that many of our other children do not, and we need to address them to help those students achieve their full potential.”

The Seven Seals Award is symbolic of the seven services: Army National Guard; Army Reserve; Navy Reserve; Marine Corps Reserve; Air National Guard; Air Force Reserve; and Coast Guard Reserve.

A statement of AACPS’ support for the Guard and Reserve is posted on school websites.
