COAST GUARD YARD STRUCTURAL GROUP, NEW LIFE ADDICTION COUNSELING AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES NAMED AACPS BUSINESS PARTNERS OF THE YEAR

The United States Coast Guard Yard Structural Group and New Life Addiction Counseling and Mental Health Services have been honored as Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ 2019 Business Partners of the Year. The awards were announced at the school system’s recent 33rd annual Excellence in Education event.

The Coast Guard Yard Structural Group, based in Curtis Bay, won in the Over 50 Employees category for its work with the school system’s Office of Career and Technology Internships. The group participates in open houses, visits classrooms, organizes field trips, and works very closely with the Centers of Applied Technology North and South to inform and excite students about opportunities available through technical and trade centers. The group also provides on-the-job experiences for high school students and is employing 65 AACPS students this year.

New Life Addiction Counseling and Mental Health Services, located in Pasadena, won in the Under 50 Employees category for its commitment to help Northeast High School use education in the fight against the opioid crisis. The company has partnered with Northeast’s Human Performance Signature Program and organized classroom visits from key business partners who could help students better understand the opioid crisis and how it was impacting their own community. Led by New Life and the Signature team, Northeast students used this new information to create a “Haunted House of Addictions,” to increase awareness about the consequences of using drugs and how to spot the signs of an overdose.

The headline sponsors for this year’s Excellence in Education awards dinner were BGE and Comcast.
