The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County has approved three revisions to the 2018-2019 school year calendar to reflect legislative changes made by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Larry Hogan earlier this year.
At its May 2, 2018, meeting, the Board:
- Formally designated June 17-21, 2019, as days on which schools could be open for students if the number of days needed for inclement weather closings surpasses the three built into the calendar. The legislation passed by the General Assembly allows school systems to build in up to five days past the June 15 mandated closing date to be used in the event of excessive inclement weather.
- Removed the use of Easter Monday (Monday, April 22, 2019) as the third potential inclement weather day.
- Added Tuesday, March 5, 2019, as the third potential inclement weather day. The day is currently designated to be used for parent-teacher conferences. Conferences would be canceled and schools would open for students only if the school system has had to close schools for inclement weather on three or more days before March 5, 2019.
The calendar calls for classes to begin for students on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, and end on Friday, June 14, 2019.
The calendar maintains the adjustment made in the current school year that reduced Easter/Spring Break to three days, and builds two firm days into the end of the year for inclement weather. Those days would be taken off the end of the school year if they are not needed.
The calendar also calls for schools be open for students on the day of the Maryland State Education Association convention.
The revised Board calendar can be found on the AACPS website.
