RIVIERA BEACH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL KAY PANAGOPULOS WINS STATEWIDE ARTS AWARD

Riviera Beach Elementary School Principal Kay Panagopulos was recently named as one of three recipients of the Arts Education in Maryland Schools (AEMS) Alliance’s 2013 Alvin and Louise Myerberg Arts Leadership Recognition Awards.

Panagopulos has been principal at Riviera Beach since 2006. The school integrates the arts throughout its curriculum as a way to reinforce curricular connections, increase student engagement, and enhance student learning.

“I believe that the arts and arts integration help all students to achieve success in school, work, and life and that the arts provide the skills and knowledge that is needed to develop the creativity, discipline, and intellectual capacities necessary for success in today’s global information age,” Panagopulos said.

Christopher Berry, principal of James Hubert Blake High School in Montgomery County, and Marcy Leonard, principal of Hammond High School in Howard County, also received awards from AEMS. The winning principals will be invited to be part of the AEMS Ambassadors for Arts Education, a group dedicated to helping all students gain access to high quality arts programs.
