Citing the need for more flexibility as she pursues employment opportunities, Teresa Milio Birge today announced her resignation from the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County. The move is effective immediately.
Birge has represented Legislative District 32 on the Board of Education since 2008, when she was appointed to a five-year term. She was reappointed in 2013 and is now serving a term that ends on December 2, 2018.
“Serving as a member of the Anne Arundel School Board representing District 32 since July of 2008 has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” Birge wrote in her resignation letter to Board President Julie Hummer. “Having the opportunity to serve the students and families of Anne Arundel County for over nine years has been truly humbling.”
“I am proud of our accomplishments, and my decision to leave was not made easily,” Birge added. “However, I must now focus on the needs of my career and family.”
Hummer will notify the School Board Appointment Commission of Anne Arundel County (SBAC) of Birge’s resignation. The SBAC will be responsible for appointing Birge’s successor.
“I admire and respect the work that Teresa has done on behalf of the children of our county during her service on the Board,” Hummer said. “The entire Board and I wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
Birge has lived in Anne Arundel County for more than 45 years. She and her husband have two children who are both enrolled in Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
