COMMUNITY BRIEFING ON ANNAPOLIS PENINSULA REDISTRICTING PLAN RESCHEDULED FOR MARCH 21, 2017

The community briefing to discuss Superintendent George Arlotto’s recommended Annapolis Peninsula redistricting plan, originally scheduled for March 14, 2017, but postponed by inclement weather, has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2017.

The briefing will take place in the Board Room of the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. The meeting is open to the public. While questions may be posed and will be answered, no public testimony will be taken.

The plan recommended by Dr. Arlotto, which the Board has moved to public hearing, essentially consists of three separate parts:

  • Altering the boundaries of elementary schools in the Annapolis cluster in the 2017-2018 school year
  • Shifting Mills-Parole Elementary School to feed into Annapolis Middle School in the 2017-2018 school year
  • Moving students from two neighborhoods north of the Severn River from Annapolis Elementary School to Arnold Elementary School, as well as some students from Germantown Elementary School to Annapolis Elementary School, in the 2019-2020 school year.

The complete plan and other materials related to the redistricting process can be found here.

PUBLIC HEARING

The Board of Education will take public testimony about the plan at a public hearing scheduled for April 3, 2017, at 6 p.m. at Annapolis High School. Speakers may testify only on the plan currently before the Board at the hearing. Speakers will be limited to 3 minutes, and can sign up beginning at 5 p.m.

The Board is scheduled to vote on a final redistricting plan on April 19, 2017. No public testimony about the plan will be taken at the April 19 meeting.
