COMMITTEE TO LOOK AT REDISTRICTING OPTIONS FOR BROADNECK AND CAPE ST. CLAIRE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

A committee of parents, community residents, and school system officials is set to begin studying the possibilities with regard to redistricting at Broadneck and Cape St. Claire elementary schools.

The committee will study options available to alleviate, to the extent possible, overcrowding at Broadneck Elementary School, which is currently over capacity. Cape St. Claire Elementary School, conversely, is under capacity.

An organizational meeting of the committee will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Broadneck Elementary School. The committee also is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on the following dates:

  • October 4, 2016, at Cape St. Claire Elementary School
  • October 11, 2016, at Broadneck Elementary School
  • October 18, 2016, at Cape St. Claire Elementary School
  • October 25, 2016, at Broadneck Elementary School

The committee may complete its work in fewer meetings than those currently scheduled. All committee meetings are open to the public.  Public input is welcome at all meetings except the organizational meeting.

The committee will make a recommendation to schools Superintendent George Arlotto in November. Dr. Arlotto will forward his recommendations to the Board of Education no later than the first Board meeting in December. The Board will conduct public hearings on the plans before reaching a decision no later than April 30, 2017.

This process will be separate from a similar effort to study redistricting possibilities in the Annapolis cluster elementary and middle schools.
