BOARD OF EDUCATION, TEACHERS ASSOCIATION REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT ON ONE-YEAR CONTRACT

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County and the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County (TAAAC) have reached a tentative agreement on a contract for Fiscal Year 2017. The agreement stipulates terms of employment for teachers and other employees represented by TAAAC, and runs through June 30, 2017.

aacps for release“Four days ago, we opened the doors to approximately 81,000 students and began to focus on helping every one of them reach their full potential,” Superintendent George Arlotto said. “We can’t do that without the awesome teachers that exist in our classrooms, and I am pleased that this part of the process has resulted in a mutually agreeable solution and that teachers can now focus on doing what they do best: educate our awesome students.”

Terms of the contract, which was tentatively agreed upon yesterday with the help of a mediator, will not be publicly disclosed until both the Board and TAAAC membership ratify the agreement.

“The energy, time, and problem-solving that goes into reaching an acceptable collective bargaining agreement is one area where both TAAAC and the Board understand that collaboration is key,” TAAAC President Richard Benfer said. “This effort began in October 2015 and culminated in this mediated agreement. Neither team lost sight of the needs of our educators and both recognize the benefits of reaching a mutual agreement. If more adequate resources were provided by the funding authorities, both parties would have been happier with the result. Now we turn our attention to the the students we serve and getting on with the outstanding work educators in our county do each and every day.”
