The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will hear an update on the readiness of schools for the 2016-2017 school year at its next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, August 17, 2016. The meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis.
The update will include information from the offices of School Performance, Curriculum & Instruction, Advanced Studies & Programs, Student Support Services, and Human Resources, as well as from the school system’s Chief Operating Officer.
The 2016-2017 school year starts on Monday, August 22, with students in first through fifth, sixth, and ninth grades beginning classes. More than 81,000 students are projected to attend AACPS schools in the coming school year.
Students at Benfield and West Annapolis elementary schools will begin the school year one day later than other students because of construction projects at their schools. Sixth- and ninth-graders at the Mary Moss at J. Albert Adams Academy will also start class on Aug. 23. A complete 2016-2017 school year calendar can be found here.
The Board will meet at 8:30 a.m. to vote to go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The general session of the meeting, which is open to the public, starts at 10 a.m.

The general session of Wednesday’s Board meeting will be broadcast live on AACPS-TV, which can be found on Channel 96 on Comcast and Broadstripe, and Channel 36 on Verizon. Rebroadcasts are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. the day after the meeting and 2:00 p.m. on subsequent Sundays.
