The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County is scheduled to discuss and adopt final Fiscal Year 2017 operating and capital budgets at its next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, June 22, 2016. The meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis.
The County Council formally adopted its FY2017 operating and capital budgets, which contains school system funding, on June 15, 2016.
While the Board has no authority to alter the capital budget adopted by the Council, it can consider reallocating funds within operating budget categories if it so desires.
The operating budget approved by the Council contains funding sufficient for a full step increase for all eligible employees and a similar increase for non-represented employees, though the exact nature of increases will be determined through negotiations with employee bargaining units. The budget approved by the Council also contains funding for 100 additional positions, 88.5 of which are classroom teachers or school-based staff members who have direct daily contact with students.
The capital budget contains FY2017 funding to begin or continue design and/or construction projects at Severna Park High School and Manor View, High Point, George Cromwell, Jessup, Arnold, Edgewater, Tyler Heights, and Richard Henry Lee elementary schools.
The Board will meet on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. to vote to go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations.
