The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will review the results of a county study looking at the viability of building a Crofton area high school and potentially other facilities on property owned by Anne Arundel County Public Schools at its next meeting, scheduled for January 6, 2016.
AACPS owns more than 154 acres of land along Route 424 in Crofton, a site that is now jointly utilized by Crofton Middle School and by the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks (Recreation & Parks) for Crofton Park and Cardinal Field. The County Government commissioned the viability study in collaboration with AACPS to evaluate scenarios for use of this property in conjunction with the future planned Crofton Area High School project.
The study was prepared by GWWO Architects with input from AACPS staff, the Department of Recreation and Parks, and the County Executive’s Education Officer. It includes the placement of a high school, two middle schools, and an elementary/special school, along with the Recreation and Parks facilities.
The Board will meet at 8:30 a.m. on January 6 to vote to go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The general session of the meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 10 a.m.
A complete agenda for the meeting accompanies this news release. More information on agenda items will be posted on the AACPS website in the Board Docs section under the Board of Education tab.
The general session of Wednesday’s Board meeting will be broadcast live on AACPS-TV, which can be found on Channel 96 on Comcast and Broadstripe, and Channel 36 on Verizon. High definition broadcasts can be seen on Channel 996 on Comcast and Channel 496 on Broadstripe.
