BOARD OF EDUCATION, TEACHERS ASSOCIATION REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT ON ONE-YEAR CONTRACT

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County and the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County (TAAAC) have reached a tentative agreement on a contract for Fiscal Year 2016. The agreement stipulates terms of employment for teachers and other employees represented by TAAAC, and runs through June 30, 2016.

“This agreement is the result of countless hours of work on the part of many people,” Superintendent George Arlotto said. “Finding common ground on the variety of complicated issues with which our teams dealt is not an easy process, but it is a critical one to help move our employees and our school system forward.”

Terms of the contract, which was tentatively agreed upon yesterday with the help of a mediator, are not being disclosed until both the Board and TAAAC membership ratify the agreement.

“Not many people other than those of us in the labor relations business understand the effort, time, and problem-solving that go into reaching an acceptable collective bargaining agreement,” TAAAC President Richard Benfer said. “This one took 11 months and one day, and a good deal of collaboration among the negotiators from both TAAAC and the Board. We believe it to be a good agreement that meets the interests of both parties and the students we serve.”
