BOARD TO VOTE ON FORMAL APPROVAL OF NEW 5-YEAR AGREEMENT FOR CHESAPEAKE SCIENCE POINT PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County is scheduled to vote on formal approval of a new five-year charter agreement for Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School at its next meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. The meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis.

The Board approved a new charter for CSP at its February 4, 2015, meeting. Anne Arundel County Public Schools staff and CSP officials have been working on specific terms of the agreement since that time.

The agreement articulates the rights and responsibilities of each party regarding school autonomy, expected outcomes, measures for evaluating success or failure, performance consequences, and other material terms.

Also at the meeting, the Board will vote on revisions to a policy governing the use of cell phones and other personal electronic communications devices during the school day. The revisions include language on the use of such devices for instructional purposes.

The Board will meet on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. to vote to go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The general session of the meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 10 a.m.

A complete agenda for the meeting accompanies this news release. More information on agenda items will be posted on the AACPS website in the Board Docs section under the Board of Education tab.

The general session of Wednesday’s Board meeting will be broadcast live on AACPS-TV, which can be found on Channel 96 on Comcast and Broadstripe, and Channel 36 on Verizon. High definition broadcasts can be seen on Channel 996 on Comcast and Channel 496 on Broadstripe.
