ADMINISTRATION OF HSA, PARCC EXAMS ALTERS TRANSPORTATION SCHEDULE FROM MAY 18-21

The administration of High School Assessment (HSA) and Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) exams for students enrolled in Algebra I, Algebra II, English 10, Biology, and U.S. Government from Monday, May 18, 2015, through Thursday, May 21, 2015, will cause changes in bus transportation for high school students at all 12 comprehensive high schools throughout the testing schedule.

HSA exams will generally be administered according to the following schedule, but students should check with their school for any variations:

  • Monday, May 18: U.S. Government
  • Wednesday, May 20: Biology

PARCC exam schedules have been determined by individual schools based on space and technology availability.

Exam schedules for all comprehensive high schools are listed by school in a document that accompanies this release. The school-by-school schedule, which lists which students should report on which days for exams, can also be found at www.aacps.org.

The school day for students at the 12 comprehensive high schools taking an HSA or PARCC exam will begin at the normal time of 7:17 a.m. Bus transportation for those students will continue on a normal schedule.

The school day for students at the 12 comprehensive high schools not taking an HSA or PARCC exam will begin at 10:30 a.m. Buses will transport these students and make stops 3 hours and 15 minutes later than the normal pickup times.

All bus stops will be serviced by all bus operators for both the first and second pickups of students. The school day for all students will end as normal at 2:05 p.m., with a single run bus schedule transporting students home.

The second bus run for pickups is only for students who are not taking HSA or PARCC exams on that given day. Students should follow the normal transportation schedule on any day on which they are taking HSA or PARCC exams.

Special circumstances and exceptions

  • Classes at the Centers of Applied Technology that begin prior to 11 a.m. are canceled on each of the four testing days. Classes that begin after 11 a.m. will be held as scheduled. Bus service will support high schools accordingly.
  • There will be no second bus runs for students at the Mary E. Moss Academy, Phoenix Academy, or Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School.
  • There will be no second bus runs for students in high school magnet programs, ED programs, regional ESOL programs, or for homeless students. Students in those categories should board their buses at the normal times.
  • The schedule for Evening High School students is unchanged.

Parents should direct questions about specific testing and transportation arrangements to their child’s school.
