The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently announced that Darian Rice, a senior at Broadneck High School, is the lone Anne Arundel County recipient of a 2015 National Achievement scholarship. He is among a group of approximately 700 talented African-American students from across the country to be awarded scholarships totaling more than $2 million this year.
Darian will receive a single-payment $2,500 award to study applied mathematics at a post-secondary institution of higher learning.
The National Achievement Scholarship Program has helped to support more than 34,200 outstanding African-American students over the past 51 years. Students are eligible to receive awards based on top-level performance on the preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT).
