TWO MORE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS EARN NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Allison Waters of Broadneck High School and Kristine Mar of South River High School are the most recent county seniors to be added to the growing list of National Merit Scholars from AACPS, announced recently by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Waters and Mar were chosen from a talented group of 15,000 students from across the country and are among 53 from the state of Maryland. They each will receive a single-payment scholarship worth $2,500 to pursue post-secondary studies in environmental engineering and journalism, respectively.

Students earn the honor based on their excellent academic records, standardized test performances, school and community leadership, essay submissions, and high school recommendations.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will announce another 4,500 scholarship winners later this spring and this summer. In all, more than $35 million will be awarded to nearly 8,000 outstanding high school seniors in this year’s competition.
