TWO COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AWARDED CORPORATE-SPONSORED NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Jessica Zhao of Meade High School and Keith Boone of Severna Park High School are the most recent county seniors to earn scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The two are among approximately 8,000 talented students from across the country who have won scholarships totaling more than $35 million this year.

The corporate-sponsored awards range from $500 to $10,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study. Zhao’s award is sponsored by Northrop Grumman in support of her pursuit of a degree and career in economics. With plans to study computer science, Boone earned the Southwest Airlines Co. scholarship.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will name more scholarship winners throughout the spring and early summer.
