BOARD OF EDUCATION TO CONDUCT PUBLIC HEARING ON CENTRAL-MAYO REDISTRICTING PLAN ON APRIL 22, 2014

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will conduct a public hearing on a redistricting proposal that is essentially identical to one it adopted in 2012 at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014.

The hearing, to be held at the Parham Building in Annapolis, is required for the Board to either reaffirm or modify its 2012 plan. The hearing is required by a recent State Board of Education decision in the wake of an appeal.

At the hearing, the Board will take testimony only on the following option:

Redistrict from Central Elementary to Mayo Elementary students living along the east side of Muddy Creek Road down to and including Wolfe’s Reserve and those students living on Fiddlers Hill Road (west side of Muddy Creek Road), as well as those students living east of Muddy Creek Road and south of Central Avenue as it extends to the current boundary with Mayo Elementary, including those living in River Club Estates and along Camp Letts Road.

Should the Board adopt the above-stated plan, no students already enrolled at Central or Mayo elementary would be moved from their current school.

The Board will consider the testimony along with other information before reaching its final decision. A vote is scheduled for the Board’s April 23, 2014, meeting.

Anyone wishing to speak at the hearing will be allotted three minutes.
