The AACPS Office of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is holding its first German STEM Immersion Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at North County High School in Glen Burnie.
The German equivalent of STEM is MINT, which stands for Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaft, and Technik. The event is a collaboration between Lindale Middle School, North County High School, and the University of Maryland – Baltimore County (UMBC).
All activities will take place in German, and students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities designed to deepen their understanding of the culture and language. Attendees will take part in workshops that include a “sinnespfad,” or blind and barefoot nature walk; construction of small houses designed to withstand high winds; development of a small electrical circuit; and assembly of a solar collector.
There is a $5 fee for students and they may register at http://tinyurl.com/n6qu7wo.
